Awareness
In order to teach us healthy lessons our Lord God deigns to shower his grace on us by creating in our lives various queer incidents or situations. Every anecdote, circumstance, environment - pleasant or unpleasant - is in reality God's grace conferred upon us. Our vision must trained to see, in everything and everybody that we meet in life, excellent opportunities to teach us wisdom or to help us go forward in our journey. Such a consistent attitude toward events is possible only when we can retain lively awareness (of deep love for God and our purpose in life) and the correct insight. Even this is not all. We have to become our own Guru in order to learn how to become more and more devoted to god, and at the same time to remain detached from all our surroundings.
When this process continues for some time, we can become and remain vibrantly awake to the goal of our lives. The beauty of sadhana lies in the fact that the greater and more vigorous our awareness, the more that awareness itself becomes our Guru and leads us further and further along our path.
Awareness - Our New Guru
Such awareness incessantly imparts newer and newer lessons, creating in us the power of intuitional perception. It makes us perform correct actions and shows us what new steps we must take to attain higher and higher stages of spiritual life. In fact this unintermittent and stimulating awareness itself becomes our true, ever vigilant, Guru. Whoever has been able to attain the patronage of tha tSat-guru by creating in himself the spirit of well-informed deep devotion has as good as won the game.
If we have fully recognized the essence of true sadhana, we shall never be caught up in the desire to escape from any situation that faces us. Let this fact be deeply ingrained in our minds. When such perfect awareness has grown in our lives, we shall experience complete freedom from all cares.
Such watchful awareness will then become our unfailing guard. It will cry out loudly against the slightest infringement made by the mind, attitude, and intelligence. That awakened consciousness will even bring us back to the road of self-development that we have chosen to tread.
It is our third eye - the eye of wisdom. It is from such arisen consciousness that we are invested with the infinite power to ennoble our lives. I am not writing all this from heresay. It is my actual personal experience.
Awake! Arise!
I cannot see even the slightest vestige of such awakening in anyone of my dear ones; and yet we are out to gain the experience of Divine Consciousness! That is why I have to brush up your memory. If we have really discarded everything in search of Eternal Life, such a great renunciation should reveal itself in our way of living.
If
there is no such manifestation of our great resolve in our everyday lives,
then that resolve will fall down like a palace of playing cards erected by
children. The world will laugh at us; but I do not mind at all. What touches
me to the quick is the fact that we could not do what we set out to do, and
so had no justification for our belief in ourselves a aspirants. I would feel
a little at ease, if only we were constantly striving to gain our goal and
remained steadfast in our attempts. What I find in you however, is nothing
but a short push forward and then an abrupt and complete collapse. I am not
at all concerned with what happens in our other spiritual centers. What I
regard as being of prime importance is this: How we behave in our ordinary
lives and what our status in spiritual life is. I insist on loving and well-informed
action at all times. That alone proves we are genuine spiritual aspirants.
Even the harsh words I frequently use, I use because I know it is my duty
to trim again and again the light covered up with ashes in your being.
